In addition to the modified emulsion binders Polbit and Fortcoat, Bituchem produce unmodified emulsion binders which have different bitumen contents and are suitable for a range of uses including surface dressing, concrete curing and tack coating. One of Bituchem’s most popular unmodified emulsion binders is the K1-70 which is a binder with bitumen content of 70%.

Surface Preparation for application of Emulsion Binder

As the emulsions contain water, cold temperatures, rain, and damp atmospheres do not permit a surface dressing to be completed successfully so the product is very much seasonal. In season the emulsions can be adapted to a certain extent in order to manage the unpredictable weather conditions. However, this is only to cope with fluctuating ambient temperatures, not damp conditions.
In order to get a good finish, contractors will sweep the existing surface, remove any obstacles, for example cats eyes and cover any drain lids or service access points

Supply and Delivery

Bituchem supply the emulsion in bulk by tanker to site. It is then transferred from the tanker into either heated holding tanks supplied by Bituchem or to onsite sprayer tanks provided by the contractor who is undertaking the job. If necessary, Bituchem can apply the binder without the need of contractors if instructed.
