LockChip™ Driveway

LockChip™ Driveway is Bituchem's new special emulsion that locks down chippings in either new or old surface dressing applications and existing asphalt surfaces that are starting to reach the end of their lifespan.

LockChip™ Driveway Overview

LockChip™ Driveway has been developed primarily for driveways and footpaths where the material will normally be applied using a brush or squeegee as heavy machinery like heated sprayer tankers are too bulky to access the smaller areas. LockChip™ Driveway is designed to treat surfaces that are starting to shed surface chippings, fret, and lose aggregate. LockChip™ will immediately lock down loose chippings, and help prevent the surface deteriorating any further. In areas where the surface course has worn through to the base course, Bituchem's Easypatch™ can be used to patch these areas first before a coating of LockChip™ is applied, giving the surface a uniform appearance.

LockChip™ Driveway general characteristics:

  • Improved early and long-term chip retention

  • Reduces water ingression into road base

  • Reduces stripping and Ravelling

  • Non tracking and fast setting

  • Black appearance similar to that of new surfacing

  • Extend the life of the driveway/footpath without the cost of resurfacing.

  • Can be used in conjunction with our Easypatch product which fills potholes and surface voids, providing the complete solution to refreshing driveways and footpaths.

Application and Preparation

Installation initially involves ensuring the surface is free of dust, dirt, oil, grease, fuel, mud, leaves and foliage. Ideal temperatures for applying LockChip™ is between 10°C and 30°C at a rate of 0.5 litres per square metre. The treated area can be usable after a minimum of 4 hours, however in high ambient temperatures for example summertime, the treated area can be in use within fewer hours at the discretion of the installer considering climate conditions. Driveways with an incline of more than 10° are not suitable for a LockChip™ application as the material will run and not adhere. The surface for treatment must be free from standing water before, during and after the application for at least 4 hours and the environment must be frost free throughout the application process.

Supply and Delivery

Bituchem supplies LockChip in either 25 litre or 200 litre containers to suit buyer’s needs. It is recommended to apply LockChip with a brush or squeegee.
